WHY A TV SHOW?
Did you know that 80% of childhood blindness is preventable, 10 % unavoidable, and 10% curable by surgery? 4 children per 10, 000 births in India are visually challenged. Blindness in children can be caused by refractive errors, eye infections and Vitamin A deficiency amongst other causes. It can be prevented by regular check-ups and medicines as well as dietary supplements and squint and congenital cataract can sometimes be cured by surgery.
Devdaya Charitable Trust has been fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to promote our charitable cause on the television station MATV, and have decided to produce a show which gives talented artistes an opportunity to appear on television in the hope of bringing the efforts of preventing blindness in children to the attention of the viewing public.
We at Devdaya believe that involving the British Indian public in the television series will encourage people to air their talents on national and international television for a selfless and kind motive. Their performance may not give them a materialistic prize, but it will give them an invaluable experience of doing something they enjoy; whilst at the same time aiding people much less fortunate than themselves.
We have put together a programme that will run for thirteen weeks. We feel that the festivals of Navratri and Diwali are peak periods for us to launch a charity based programme, and have planned our airtime schedule to coincide with these events. Our initial informal marketing of the show has already given us a number of talented artistes who are ready and willing to give their time - and a small donation - to get our show up and running. We have devised a programme agenda for each week that will reflect the spirituality and fun of the festive season.
